Sacramento County's budget hearing is coming up next Tuesday, and many of us would like to see the following explored and/or funded:
- Explore and fund a Plan B for the jail annex
- Invest in community-based mental health care
- Implement all the Mental Health Board's recommendations to meet the Mays decision consent decree.
- Cancel the Nacht & Lewis Architectural contract
The county is on a dangerous path towards a billion-dollar jail expansion which would pull funds away from the vital services our community needs. This bond would cost the county’s general fund at least $50M per year in interest alone—going to a bank’s profits instead of the public good. That’s almost more than the entire housing and homeless services budget.
