A shining beacon of hope

If you haven't seen it, or just haven't seen it in a while, I heartily recommend Geoff Lawton's Greening the Desert video as one of the most encouraging things you're likely to view all week. Lawton is a sustainable agriculture expert, and even visited Sacramento two years ago in May. Lawton's work hasn't just been demonstrated in the Middle East, John Liu demonstrates rehabilitating large-scale damaged ecosystems in China, too.
