The annals of pseudo religion: How Christianity became synonymous with capitalism

Here's a Fresh Air interview with Kevin Kruse, who covers the marketing of the U.S. as a "Christian Nation." His book One Nation Under God: How Corporate America Invented Christian America describes this in more detail. Sounds pretty fascinating to me.
After the New Deal, corporate America argues / markets the notion that capitalism and Christianity are soul mates, unified in a kind of Christian libertarianism. Like "Christianity" (please ignore salvation by grace), capitalism rewards people according to their merits. This is a distortion of both kinds of religiosity, particularly removing any reference to the dangers of wealth. The New Deal was seen as "pagan statism."
Really worth a listen.
